Recognized for his DIY attitude and prolific creative output, Sell’s work has been featured in Newsweek, Filmmaker Magazine & indieWire among many other publications as well as on the Ellen Show. Launching his career at the age of 18, Sell traveled the entire United States with his Hi8 video camera documenting all that he saw around him. His work quickly developed a trademark lo-fi aesthetic for his inspiring portraits of individuals overcoming all odds. His 2006 debut feature “No Place Like Home” focused on the rebuilding of the ravaged Post-Katrina Gulf Coast and the efforts of the non-profit ‘Defend New Orleans’ while his follow up “My Dying Day” concentrated on his Father’s final days after a long battle with cancer. This experience inspired him to begin studying “End-of-life companionship” and earn his official Death Doula certification through the DoulaGivers Institute. Details of his EOL work can be found Here.

For many years, Sell trained under award winning Documentary Filmmaker Ondi Timoner on such projects as “Brand - A Second Coming” and “A Total Disruption.” In his early years, Sell worked in numerous genres ranging from shorts, horror, comedy, music videos and experimental films. However, his passion for documentary filmmaking would quickly become the most prominent focus of his eclectic cinematic career. He has collaborated with many Musicians, Authors and Artists including Zeena Schreck & Radio Werewolf, JD Pinkus (Butthole Surfers, Melvins), Meg Myers, Annie Hardy (Giant Drag), Priest, Xiu Xiu, The Gentleman Losers, Henry Wolfe, PEN-Award Winning Author Mitch Horowitz, Poet Mandy Kahn and many others. Sell has also made appearances on HBO’s Treme, Law & Order and various commercials including for Stella Artois.

In addition, Sell has worked beside numerous non-profit organizations including Defend New Orleans, The Animal Rescue Mission of Los Angeles, Human Kind & more to create inspirational video content.

His films are now archived at the New York Film-Makers Coop and he was the first Filmmaker to have cinematic material archived and preserved at the historic Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles where he taught online film courses during the pandemic. A large collection of his early documentaries was officially released on VOD in 2020. In addition to making films, Sell is the author of “Filming the Formless“ & “The Cultivation of the Creative Spirit” regarding his metaphysical film work. He is a lover of all animals.
